An Affair to Remember

A farewell luncheon sounds sort of sad.  Someone obviously leaving, or forced to leave, for economic reasons.

But the group that booked the luncheon at our restaurant last Wednesday were anything but sad.

This is a group of 22 folks that define the words upbeat and optimistic.

An Affair to Remember
These people, from all walks of life, have dedicated a good part of their free time to charitable causes.  Significant charitable causes.  Causes of the sort that win medals of honor from recipiant countries.

For organizing millions of dollars of food and medical aid to Africa and children living in poverty there.

Or for travelling to far flung parts of Africa to help build wells for villages being ravaged by drought and effects of regional conflicts.

Those sorts of causes.

So when one of their members was forced to leave due to the current economic situation (even charities are suffering!),  everyone wanted to ensure that this persons amazingly selfless deeds were remembered, that this person’s personal sacrafices were offered up as an inspiration to the rest of the group, and that that person knew the deep feelings of loss and regret borne by the remaining members of the group.

We at Sol Del Sur felt honored to host this luncheon.  And were awestruck as the list of awards, achievements and charitable causes attributed to the guest of honor was related.

And rather than sad, the group rededicated themselves to ensuring the charitable causes they are involved with would not suffer as a consequence of this departure.  Determined and inspired.  Anything but sad.

For the event, we put together a sepecial menu, and made sure that the group got a good deal by dropping the price to about half off the standard cost for such an event.  We also reserved the entire inside of the restaurant for the group, which allowed them to enjoy the occasion in a more intimate setting and to freely offer several hours of testamonials to the guest of honors’ achievements and friendship over the years.

The menu we offered was:

Ahi Tuna Carpaccio with Truffle Oil and Arugula

Tortilla Campesina with Chimichurri Sauce

Fresh grilled Scottisch Salmon Fillet with Strawberry Gastrique and Caramelized Onion Wild Rice

House Made Dolche de Leche Gelato with fresh berries

The lunch included unlimited soft drinks, ice tea and coffee.

The food turned out great, everyone had plenty, the service was smooth, and we got a standing ovation as the event began to wind down.
Testamonials Offered and Friendships Reconfirmed
All in all, an affair to remember.  For us because of the stature of the people who attended and the amazing list of achievements of the guest of honor.  For them, because of the reaffirmation of the friendship that exists and will not be broken, and maybe, just a tiny bit because of the awesome food that helped make the event a success!
